This EPA Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor accreditation course is for those who will supervise an asbestos abatement project. Accreditation is mandatory for anyone supervising asbestos removal work where the debris will require more than one waste bag or glove bag. You must take this course in order to obtain Cal-OSHA Consultant Certification. This course is also for workers.
DAY 1: Introduction - The role of the Supervisor; Introduction to asbestos; Asbestos Types, uses and applications; Primary areas where asbestos containing materials are found; Exposure factors; Aerodynamics of asbestos; Identification of asbestos-containing materials; Asbestos Diseases; Legal & Insurance Considerations; Contract Specifications; Supervisory Techniques for Asbestos Abatement; Pre- Work Activities & Considerations; Employee Training; Project Log book.
DAY 2: Protecting the Worker: Respirators & Protective Clothing; Breathing Air Systems; History of Respirator Usage; Respirators used for asbestos work; Powered Air Purifying (PAPR); Type “C” or Supplied Air; Training in Respirator Selection, Use, Maintenance and Inspection; Procedures for fit testing; OSHA Requirements for an Approved Respiratory Protection Program; Other Personal Protective Equipment; HANDS-ON EXERCISES; Medical Surveillance; Setup of Work Area & Establishing Decontamination Unit; Confining & Minimizing Airborne Fibers -Negative Air; Control Methods.
DAY 3: Removal; Air Monitoring; Other Health and Safety Problems; Cleanup; Sampling & Analytical Methodology Pertaining to Asbestos Abatement; Waste Disposal; Post Removal Lockdown Practices and Asbestos Substitutes; New Abatement related techniques and methodologies.
DAY 4: Laws - Federal and State agencies and regulations; Laws - Local agencies and regulations; Maintenance-Related Removal; HANDS ON EXERCISES; Practical Experience -with skill testing
Day 5: Question and Answer Session; HANDS-ON EXERCISES; Review of Key Elements; Evaluation; Written Exam.
