This course is required for site workers regularly on site engaged in hazardous substance removal or other activities which expose or potentially expose workers to hazardous substances and health hazards. Below are the daily topics covered.

Introduction; Environmental Regulations Overview; HAZWOPER Regulation Overview; Basic Safety Management; Safety Hazards; Electrical Hazards; Biological Hazards; Hearing Conservation; Heat Stress; Hazard Communication; Chemical & Physical Properties of Hazardous Materials.
TUESDAY
Chemical & Physical Properties of Hazardous Materials; Fire Chemistry; Fire Protection; Hazardous Materials Recognition & Identification Systems; Toxicology; Ionizing Radiation; Medical Surveillance; Haz Mat Sanitation & Hygiene; Drench Showers & Eyewash Fountains; Using the NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards and ERG Emergency Response Guidebook.
WEDNESDAY
PPE Regulations; Chemical Protective Clothing; Respiratory Protection; Levels of Protection; Site Control & Decontamination; Spill Response Control & Containment; Emergency Response (First Responder Awareness Level).
THURSDAY
Trenching & Shoring; Permit Required Confined Space Entry; Drum Handling; Site Characterization & Analysis; Air Monitoring & the Use of Direct Reading Instruments; Site Planning & Organization; Hypothetical Hazardous Waste Site Tabletop Exercise.
FRIDAY - Hands-on
Respirator Care & Cleaning; Donning, Doffing & Taping; Dress Out – Drum Handling & Decon Exercise.
Course requires successful passing of written examination. Certificate of Completion will be issued.
NOTE: Emergency Response Guidebooks are included and are used as resources in the class.
If student is required to wear a respirator, please have student bring their medical clearance form and respirator for fit testing and hands-on demonstrations.
